The Network's Governance Workshop was held at the headquarters of the Humboldt Institute in Bogota, Colombia. It was attended by representatives of the seven founding member institutes of the Network and the IDB. In two days, the Network's Governance Charter and the Joint Declaration of creation of the Network were created and approved. The Network's Steering Committee also approved the offer of member INPA to hold the first Annual Meeting of the Network at its headquarters in the city of Manaus, Brazil in June 2024.
The Network will be a regional instrument with the mission to integrate and strengthen the capacities of its member institutes; promote the generation and exchange of knowledge in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity; encourage the development and transfer of innovative solutions and technologies for the Amazon bioeconomy.
The Amazon Biodiversity Research and Innovation Network held its 1st Annual Meeting from June 13-15 at INPA's facilities in Manaus, Brazil.
Activities in Manaus began on the eve of the first day with a meeting between the Network and IDB President Ilan Goldfajn. The Network's project was presented by team leader Rafael Anta and some member institutes present spoke about their organizations and challenges of operating in the region.
On Day 1, presentations were made on the scientific areas of all the member institutes of the Network; a visit to the INPA Herbarium; and the Network's Strategic Dialogue.
Day 2 was an intense work with excellent results, now we will organize collective learning activities and collaborative projects of the Network in thematic/enabling axes in Bioeconomy; Knowledge Systems and Governance; Biodiversity Knowledge and Management; Crime and Threats.
The Steering Committee of the Network elected the Director of the SINCHI Institute, Luz Marina Marilla Cárdenas, as President of the Network, and the Director of INPA, Henrique Pereira, as Vice President, for a one-year term. We also had day 3 dedicated to visits to the ATTO Tower and Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve projects.
